Open, but at least 4-5 volunteers each year would be needed.

Other requirements?

No Turkish language skills are required, however a serious commitment to work is expected. Volunteers will need to be flexible enough to undertake different tasks, mainly to initiate and participate in activities to teach arts and English.

Volunteers who come from all parts of the world will get a chance to experience our distinct culture. Izmir is one of the oldest settlements of the Mediterranean region and it is considered to be one of the most liberal cities in Turkey in terms of values, ideology, dynamism, and gender roles.

Volunteers will stay in the boarding school with the middle school students whom they will teach. Therefore, cost of  accommodation and food is covered.


Minimum length of stay?

One academic year, starting from late September and ending in early June.

Volunteer Tasks?

Volunteers who decide to come are expected to actively contribute to English, arts, music, and theatre classes in the selected schools and organise activities under the supervision of the teachers of the mentioned subjects. They will also improve the foreign language skills of those students who need social support. Discussion clubs will also be initiated in the selected schools.

There are no former volunteers but Meltem Kaso (UWCAD, 07-09) from Turkey is the main organiser of the project and will be present during the first year of the project. You may contact her for further information on the project, language, culture, and expectations.
